The Boardwalkers Music Video for Chapter 8: "Making Tony Quick Fish"
We connect on Zoom.com, which must be downloaded to your computer or device. Test it in advance.
Smaller groups can gather around a computer or other device. Large groups should have: (1) a computer or device with a large enough screen; (2) enough volume; and (3) a microphone for group members or your moderator can relay questions to the author.
Our author doesn't tell the stories. He discusses stories and what's behind them. Then he answers questions and exchanges ideas. Schofield is a former trial lawyer and English professor at the college level, who loves hearing from readers. It's especially fun because his stories have roots in unique real-life happenings.
Book Club appearances work best with ten or more readers, who have read one or both books: The Boardwalkers and A Run to Hell, 3rd Editions. Anyone who hasn't read the books should peruse this website. One group recently did this: before their get-together half read Boardwalkers and half read Run. Afterward they traded books with each other.
One day a judge told lawyer Frederick Schofield to address a jury with closing arguments. He rose from his counsel chair and stood before twelve jurors and two alternate jurors without any notes. Then he spoke for 3 hours and 17 stirring minutes, sat down, and won.
That's not what this is about.
Schedule a book club meeting to discuss one or both titles. Twenty minutes into the session a 3-minute book-related music video (like the one above) plays on your video screen. Then the author engages.
We understand readers aren't looking for speeches. They're inquisitive and like exchanging ideas. Our author loves that, too. Don't have questions? Let him gab.
Generally the appearance lasts about 15 minutes. It's a great addition to your book club format. Use the email link below for questions and scheduling.
